Campaign Throughput Settings
What is Campaign Throughput Settings
Campaign Throughput Settings determine how many messages your Voxie instance can send in a given time window, based on your pool of phone numbers, message types (SMS vs MMS), and network/carrier constraints.
In practice, it’s a setting in Team Settings → Team Profile → Estimated Throughput where system admins can see default capacities and, if authorized, request or apply higher capacities.
It also factors in:
-
The phone number types in your send pool (10DLC, Toll-Free, etc.) and their throughput allowances. Voxie
-
The difference between SMS (text) and MMS (media) — MMS generally has lower throughput. Voxie
-
During campaign launch, Voxie compares the campaign’s target audience size vs. the configured throughput and may issue a warning or force adjustments. Voxie
Why It’s Useful / Value Proposition
-
Prevents overload & throttling: By capping sends to your allowed throughput, it helps you avoid carrier rejections, rate limits, or being flagged as spam.
-
Ensures deliverability stability: Matching volume to capacity maintains a healthier sending reputation.
-
Scalable control: As your business grows, you can request higher throughput rather than operate under a fixed ceiling.
-
Message type awareness: Throughput settings respect differences in SMS vs MMS, so you don’t accidentally overload with media messages.
-
Smart audience feedback: When your campaign target is larger than capacity, Voxie will advise or restrict so you don’t try to send more than what’s feasible.
-
Better planning: Knowing your throughput capacity helps you design campaigns, schedule sends, or segment your sends over time to stay within limits.
Basic Introduction to Throughput factors
Voxie instances throughput capacity will depend on several factors which will be explained below.
The first differentiation we need to make is around the Message Content, which will split messages between SMS and MMS:
| SMS | SMS stands for Short Message Service and is another name for a text message1 SMS text segment = 160 character |
| MMS | MMS, short for Multimedia Messaging Service, is a standard way to send multimedia such as pictures, videos, and other attachments over text messaging channels.MMS = 1 text segment up to 1600 characters |
The group of phone types that together make the phone pool, are the ones that provide the throughput capacity since each phone number type have different metrics, these are the possible phone number types:
| 10 DLC | 10 Digit Long Commercial - These are 10-digit phone numbers that are specially provisioned for commercial use. They are whitelisted by the carrier so that promotional language should go through This phone number type can be Carrier registered to increase the Brand throughput capacity which makes it the preferred option for high volume SMS campaigns, as long as the Brand rating is good enough. |
| Toll-Free or TF | Phone number that usually starts with an 8, such as an 800 or 888 number. Originally designed for business landlines but recently got the ability to text both SMS and MMS. Has 3x throughput of 10DLC but is still subject to filtering even though it seems a little bit more relaxed. Must enable white labeling and MMS through 2 different processes. |
| Short Code(s) | A short code is a special 5 or 6 digit telephone number that's shorter than a full phone number. Short codes are used to send and receive SMS and MMS messages to and from mobile phones. Short codes can send SMS and MMS at 100 messages per second. Short codes are pre-approved by carriers to have a high throughput. |
Caveat: Short Code(s) are out of scope for this feature.
Configuring Voxie Throughput capacity
In the Section Team Settings > Team Profile, user will find the following section: Update Estimated Number Throughput, in which each of the involved MPS capacities are able to be edited.

Voxie will provide defaults, but if user applies for higher capacities, those defaults will be able to be increased.
Caveat: This setting is only available for System Admins.
Ways to increase throughput:
For 10DLCs, SMS through put can be increased by registering the Brand to the carrier network through the A2P (application to person) Trust Score, which Voxie can help to issue.
For Toll-free or TF, the number needs to be verified by the Carrier network, and afterwards, multiple phone numbers can be added to phone poll to increase send capacity, though Round Robin Voxie capability. There are couple of nuances here around "Sticky Number" which may end up in the throughput capacity tied to the initial TF phone numbers, and if "Sticky Number" setting is not set up, then the contact may need to book your number several times.
How does it work
As part of your Campaign Launch process, Voxie will quantify the amount of contacts user has selected as part of the target Audience and compare it against the phone pool Throughput capacity.

Therefore if the selected Audience is higher than your Throughput capacity, Voxie will advise the user to decrease the target Audience to a safe Contacts amount.

Moreover, MMS throughput is usually lower than the SMS capacity, therefore if an MMS campaign exceeds the throughput Voxie will enable the option to convert the Message with Media into a plain text SMS message.
💡 Caveat: This conversion will be only enabled if the MMS contains Media and Text
